Racewalking

Benefits of Racewalking

While providing much of the same aerobic and fat-burning benefits as running, racewalking offers some additional pluses.

Runners' knee injuries are almost legend. However, a racewalker's body takes less pounding than a runner's since the body is always in contact with the ground, reducing the force with which a foot lands. The leg and knee are also in a more stable position during footfall, since most walkers' strides are shorter and underneath the body, rather than extending out ahead of the walker.

The upper body gets a better workout during racewalking, since the bent arm swings are required opposite of the hip thrust and are necessary in helping propel the body forward.
